Non-profit Highlight - National Audubon Society

IG @audubonsociety

The National Audubon Society's "mission is to protect birds and the places they need, today and tomorrow. [They] conserve and restore natural ecosystems, focusing on birds and their habitats, for the benefit of humanity and the earth's biological diversity." Audubon has been around for over 100 years and it was one of the first non-profits that I was aware of as a little kid. My Grandma was an

avid birder and would take all of her grandchildren birding. As kids we may not have appreciated all the birds she pointed out to us but it definitely helped all of us look closer at and appreciate nature.

The Audubon Society has some great resources on their website including:

  • Native plant database to help you find native plants that can grow in your area to support birds

  • An interactive map to help you explore the birds where you live or where you plan to travel

  • Binocular and Scope guides to help you pick the right one for you

  • Lots of articles about conservation and how you can help

  • A kids section with articles about the environment that kids can actually understand

  • The kids section also has numerous activities including how to draw different birds and bird fun facts
